Introduction to The Renovation Gents

Looking to connect with other build design firms. We are currently at the two-year mark of client-facing work with our design-build firm. We are in a major growth phase—working strictly on a referral basis and backed up for weeks— we have temporarily stopped taking on new full-design clients to focus on implementing better systems.

While the design-build firm is relatively new, we have been handling renovations and restorations for our own properties for 25 years, having built a real estate investment company from the ground up. I have a background of a BS in Nursing and my my husband is a Doctor of Pharmacy and a licensed builder. Odd combo for sure! But we are entrepreneurs at heart and are also creatives! That is what this business is really all about along with our love for old houses. We kind of fell into this business from the community seeing our work in our own properties and requesting we do the same for them. We have grown to 2 employees and are looking to hire 2 more.

While we are still refining the business side of the firm, we have the construction side down pretty well. We would love to connect with other design-build firms in various stages of growth to share experiences and potentially help others where we can.

Other crazy thing to mention about us is we obtained a Tudor style mansion to restore and start a traditional bed and breakfast in. So this will be our 3rd business.

Best Regards

Parrish

Congrats @Parrish_Nored on all of this :tada: the growth, being backed up for weeks on referrals alone, AND a Tudor mansion B&B on the side?! You two are not messing around lol. Love the nursing + pharmacy-to-builder combo too, wild how those paths led here. Would love to hear more about how you’re building out your systems as you scale — welcome to the group!

That is an awesome story for sure. I am sure there is necer a dull moment. Where are you guys located? and do you have a website?

Hi Elizabeth!!! Sorry for the late reply. Nice to see you! On the systems we are using to keep us organized for our various projects…we are using Google Workspace as a place for general organization. Still in the learning phase. But with the two major projects we have going we have to have something to keep on task. So far is has been meeting our needs. Although we are not fully implemented. I just hired an executive assistant/project manager and he started last week! It has been amazing having talented help! So with him things are moving faster and we finally got an architect hired to do the B&B reno as we cant do it because it is considered commercial. You have to have your plans stamped by architect and the systems stamps as well. We are learning alot.

And we obviously use Houzz Pro for the Build-design Firm.

Hi Gerarad… Sorry for the delay in my response. We are located in Birmingham, Al. The B&B property is in Highland Park neighborhood. One of B’hams many historic districts. We are running our build-design firm there temporarily but will soon have to move and we hope to be in an “old house” converted to commercial (still with its character) for our offices. There we hope to have a workshop for all of our custom work and we can lease out some of the space as well to other businesses. We also own a residential real estate leasing company so leasing property is second nature to us. Out website is under construction for the Gents. WE currently use our Houzz Pro profile as a fill-in. We do have a website for our real estate company. jnpropertiesllc.com I am really afraid to open up any marketing for The Gents as we are struggling to keep up with demand from referrals only. But in due time.

What is your story?
