We want to hear from you!
AI is moving fast, and everyone has a different take, some are excited about the possibilities, others are unsure.
How are you feeling about AI in your work?
Are there parts you’re already using and loving? Anything that feels confusing or concerning? Maybe you’re still on the fence?
As a fellow business owner in the remodeling space, I’m really energized by how AI is starting to shift the game for our industry. The ability to automate admin-heavy tasks—whether it’s estimate generation, scheduling, or client communications—frees up serious bandwidth. For me, that means more time to focus on what actually drives the business forward: strategy, building meaningful partnerships, and nurturing the culture on my team. We all wear a lot of hats, but AI is starting to feel like the first real tool that helps us wear them a little lighter—and smarter.
I’ve just started to tap into it, actually. I was recently searching for a new assistant and was deliberating between a VA and in person assistant. I used ChatGPT to help organize all my tasks, prioritizing those that could be done by either of those options.
It helped me to formulate marketing plans, job descriptions, a job posting for the in person hire, even interview questions when I’d narrow down my applicants to three.
I use Notion for much or our project management (versus Asana or similar) and when I struggle with something so many of these online platforms have not immediate support. ChatGPT DOES offer immediate support and is able to assist with setting up files. It’s really proved to be a great help in ways I didn’t anticipate.
It even understands parts of HOUZZ Pro, lol! When customer service has gone home for the day at 5:00 sharp, I’m able to log into the AI and it’s often able to answer the occasional question.
I think the coolest, design related thing it’s done for me is crafting custom pieces of furniture with simple naration. As designers, we visualize in our heads a design concept or a piece of furniture. I’m able to take a quick little sketch done by hand (I cannot draw, lol - terrible, I know!) upload it and attach a very detailed amount of text and perhaps supporting images or paint colors and my ai bot will present me back with a rendering of a piece of furniture or a bathroom elevation that, while not perfect, is more than sufficient to immediately show my client what I have in mind for their project.
Hi Pamela!
Wow, this is such an inspiring breakdown of how you’re using AI across so many parts of your workflow! Thank you for sharing! It’s especially cool to hear how it’s helping you bridge the gap between idea and visual, especially with custom furniture concepts. That quick turnaround from sketch + description to rendering sounds like a game-changer for client presentations.
I’m curious: have you found any particular prompts or techniques that help you get the most accurate or useful AI sketches? Or even better, any AI tools you’ve found that work well alongside Houzz Pro or Notion for visual or creative tasks?
Less is more. I use ChatGPT, which I don’t think is the best for rendering but the only one I’m using. I know there are other designers that are really leaning into AI in a BIG way for their actual design work and I’m not actually doing that. THIS is much more simple but great for on-the-fly client help.
To get the best results with chatgpt when it comes to graphics, I find that give a TON of info up front. As much verbal detail as possible, include a couple of clear images and a complete understanding the this AI is not capable of creating or editing a photograph. It’s ONLY capable of creating a rendering. And the more you try to edit something it’s created? I find it gets further and further from what I want.
So a lot of details verbally at the beginning, more than you think you need, let it’s do it’s thing and typically the first or second result is usually the closest to the result I want.
I love your “less is more” approach with GPT, giving lots of detail up front while keeping the process light is a smart way to bring AI into your creative flow.
That point about ChatGPT generating new images (not editing existing ones) and the fact that more tweaking can take you further off course is such a helpful insight!
When you’re uploading images and descriptions, are you mostly pulling from past projects you’ve worked on? or gathering inspiration from elsewhere? I’d love to hear what’s been most helpful in getting results that really match your vision.
Thanks again for sharing all of this! It’s so helpful to see how designers like you are putting AI to work.
I am using AI in finding relevant building materials and understanding difficult building codes. I have realised that AI breaks down the complex and long text into simple steps and explains it thoroughly. This would have otherwise taken me a few days.
As an owner of a remodeling company i love AI we use Operational excellence, and this is a big improvement to running a project lean as Jason Schroeder says. However i still have my reserves in trusting the local zip code prices. We should create a section on the forum for AI
I’m feeling hopeful! At Liminal, we’re building homes and spaces that are deeply human and rooted in beauty, belonging, and nature. But behind the scenes AI is helping us quietly keep everything flowing. We’re already using it for project documentation, daily logs, estimating, and even writing contracts that are clear and kind. It’s allowing us to be even more human centric in our process!
What excites me most is when AI becomes almost invisible. It’s a support system that lets our team stay present with the work and with our clients. In the not so far-off future I can imagine AI-augmented job sites where drones scan progress, flag safety risks, or even catch framing errors before they happen. Not to replace us, but to extend our precision and care. (Send me a message if you want to nerd out on more crazy ideas like this one )
AI is a tool and there are a lot of things that worry me right now about how we are going about developing and implementing it. But, if used to help us be more human, I’m all in.
This is a great idea, I will go ahead and create a new category for AI outside the “General Pro Software category” I’ll reply here with the link so you can post your topics/questions in there!
Hey @Redrock_Construction_Remodel - I have opened a new category for AI - you can find it HERE. Thanks for the idea and excited to see what questions/ thoughts you’ll post on AI in Houzz Pro and the Build/ Design world!
