The most important lesson I learned in my first year of business? Don’t overpromise and underdeliver—whether it’s with clients, vendors, or even your own family. In those early months, the pressure to prove yourself is intense. You want every “yes” to show confidence and capability. But I quickly learned that overcommitting only compounds stress and erodes trust.

It’s better to set clear, realistic expectations and exceed them, than to promise the moon and scramble to keep up. Boundaries, honest timelines, and thoughtful communication go a long way. That mindset shift has been huge for my sanity—and for building stronger, longer-lasting relationships in every part of the business.

Thanks for sharing Dream Spaces LLLP - getting the right leads is important, and there are a few things you can do to improve lead quality and turn more of them into clients.

First, make sure your lead settings are fully dialed in. You can customize the types of projects you want, your service area, and your availability. That helps Houzz match you with more relevant homeowners. You can also give feedback on each lead, which helps refine what you get over time.

Beyond that, quick and consistent follow-ups can really makes a difference. Homeowners often reach out to multiple pros, so replying fast (and following up more than once) can give you an edge. We’ve also seen success when Pros personalize their responses a bit by mentioning something specific from the lead to show you’re really paying attention.
